A brief glance at Yossi Gestetner’s Wikipedia entry will reveal a remarkably diverse range of interests and talents. This Hasidic musician is a prolific writer and a popular Kol Mevaser radio host. His writing has been featured in both the mainstream and Orthodox press. A little known fact about Yossi Gestetner is that he is a marketing expert who organized OJPAC. They also discuss Wikipedia’s recent selective editing of his video to cast Democrats more favorably. They also talk about an unsettling video of Afghan soldiers failing basic military exercises.

Yossi Gestetner stepped down as the Jewish Outreach Director for New York Republicans on June 12, after his affiliation with an anti-Zionist haredi Orthodox organization was exposed. While working for the group, Gestetner supported controversial haredi Orthodox positions on child molestation. His resigning was a major blow to the party. And, of course, this is the reason why he was forced to step down.

But the controversy does not end there.

The Haredi Orthodox political activist, yossi gestetner, is one of many who have embraced Trump. In fact, many of his followers have used WhatsApp and other similar social media sites to spread their message of skepticism. This is no surprise, considering that Orthodox leaders are among the most vocal supporters of Trump on social media. Yossi Gestetner’s Twitter account has more than 5 million followers.

Yossi Gestetner, Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Professional

In the crowded field of Orthodox Jewish candidates for public office, Yossi Gestetner has an edge. In addition to his work as host of the Kol Mevaser hotline, he is also a writer in the Orthodox press. In addition to running his own firm, Yossi Gestetner has run campaigns for Ruchie Freier for civil court judge and Aron Wieder for Democratic primary for New York State assembly.

OJPAC-Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Council

The Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Council, or OJPAC, is a group of Jewish public affairs professionals dedicated to fighting the defamation of the Orthodox community and championing civil rights and civil liberties. Founded in 2013, the organization has held an annual appreciation dinner and policy sessions for elected officials and community members. In addition to giving out awards, the evening included policy sessions and a dinner. Founders Yossi Gestetner and Mayer Hersh Berger were honored. Aron Spielman, director of the Council’s advocacy and engagement, was presented with the Askan in Government Award.

OJPAC has stepped up efforts to protect the Orthodox community from hate crimes like this. It has called for an investigation of the incident. It has urged local and state authorities to take action against those who harm the community. A separate investigation by the New York State Police Department is underway, and the group is calling for a full investigation. Yossi Gestetner, OJPAC-Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Council spokesperson, says the rabbis of the community must not be intimidated by such acts.

While local residents in Orange County were agitating against the Hasidim, the OJPAC-Orthodox Jewish Social and Political Action Council (OJPAC) supported a bill to allow the town of Chester to collect 0.75 percent of real estate transfer tax. The money would be used for purchasing land and development rights within the town. Sadly, the OJPAC-Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Council is optimistic about the outcome.

The growth of the Hasidic community in Rockland County is staggering. Over the last decade, yeshiva enrollment has increased by more than 53%. And while the OJPAC is urging the Journal News to drop the report, it remains to be seen if the upcoming mayor will support the movement. Meanwhile, the incoming Comptroller Brad Lander, has pledged to crackdown on Yeshivas.

Gestetner & Co

Having studied in the Rabbinical Seminary, Yossi Gestetner is now the founder of public relations firm Gestetner & Co. It represents Jewish communities nationwide and corporate, charitable and political organizations. Yossi has worked with and represented leaders in the Orthodox Jewish and Hasidic Communities. Born in New York, he holds a Master of Public Relations from the University of Pennsylvania.

Yeshiva curriculum

Students who are studying in a Yeshiva study the Talmud in the afternoon, which is considered a canonic text by yeshivas. This section also includes excerpts from the Talmud, but these are not studied in “black” yeshivas. Instead, they are taught just a few gemaras that are accepted by all. The rabbis learn the entire Shas, including the Daily Pilpuls, and then pass these down to younger students.

A yeshiva curriculum also covers subjects that are relevant to life after graduation, such as sex and ketubah. Sometimes, students learn practical Halacha, but not in a legal or halachic sense. This makes them “virtual” Halacha – they only learn about the theory of the law, and do not practice it. They also learn that there is no religious arbiter for such matters.

Students in Talmud Intensive and Talmud Survey study different mesechtas each year. This rotation is specified on the transcript. Students in the Talmud Intensive program also visit local nursing homes and hospitals on Fridays, as well as before Jewish holidays. During this time, they distribute pamphlets about Jewish beliefs and practices, and publish the weekly L’Chaim pamphlet. The Yeshiva curriculum is broad, but is not exhaustive.

A recent survey of New Yorkers found that 60% of those who studied in a Yeshiva earned an ‘F’ on a civics test. Despite this, these students have a lower level of knowledge than their public school peers. In addition, the study of Jewish history shows that yeshiva graduates lack knowledge compared to their public school counterparts. In fact, according to the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation, only a quarter of New Yorkers had even passed the basic education requirement.

Objective analysis

The unbiased, critical analysis of articles by Yossi Gestenner is a rare find. The writer is a prolific contributor to the Kol Mevaser hotline, writes for the Orthodox press, and manages the campaign of Ruchie Freier for civil court judge. He also serves on the board of the Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Council, or OJPAC. But Yossi Gestenner has a distinct edge.

Critical detachment

As the son of immigrants and a prominent voice in the Jewish American news scene, Yossi Gestetner is a distinctly young writer. He has a knack for clear exposition of Jewish issues and has contributed to print and online editions of national and international publications. In addition to writing for major national publications, Yossi Gestetner has been a hotline host and a contributor to the Kol Mevaser hotline.

As the executive director of the Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Council, Gestetner has promoted Yeshiva curriculum in the New York City community and offers to meet with Mayor-elect Eric Adams to discuss the future of the city’s education system. But it appears that this letter is a preemptive move by the Orthodox Jewish community, as incoming Comptroller Brad Lander has already pledged to take a tough stance on yeshivas.
