Kelly Loeffler Stepped Down from WNBA Board of Governors in October 2019

Having run for a Senate seat last fall, Kelly Loeffler aligned herself with the Trump administration. The WNBA has been criticized for supporting Black Lives Matter, and Loeffler suggested last summer that the league put the American flag on all licensed apparel. In response, players rejected her proposal, and the players’ union called for her removal.

Loeffler stepped down from the WNBA board of governors in October 2019, and was replaced by former WNBA executive director Tamika Catchings. In a statement, Loeffler said that her decision was a personal one. “I don’t care about the team’s success or failure, I care about the people and the mission of the league,” she said in October. The WNBA has been an advocate for social justice for decades, and she has fought to make sure that women have the opportunity to play.

Loeffler’s departure from the WNBA board of governors comes amid a tense political climate. While she remains an owner of the Atlanta Dream, she has not been involved in the team’s day-to-day operations. Since July, Loeffler has faced criticism over her letter criticizing the league’s support of the Black Lives Matter movement. As a result, her Atlanta Dream teammates have started to support the new commissioner.

Though Loeffler is no longer an active member of the league’s board, she remains an active part of the community. While many players have said she should step down on her own, others were happy to see her step down on her own.

Kelly Loeffler Denies any Wrongdoing in Stock Trades

Loeffler’s stock trades have led to allegations of insider trading, but she denies any wrongdoing. She claims she did not direct her own trades and that a third party handled all of the transactions. Her campaign also claims she and her husband did not personally manage their account.

According to Loeffler, she did not use inside information in stock trades, but she did hand over documents to financial and law enforcement agencies. This prompted the FBI to launch an investigation. Loeffler is currently a senator and is the former CEO of the stock trading website Bakkt.

According to the New York Times, Loeffler sold more than $18 million worth of stock over a period of eight days in mid-February. Loeffler sold shares in companies that were hit hard by the coronavirus. She said the transactions were made through an outside financial adviser.

Loeffler’s campaign says she did not violate the law when she sold up to $20 million in stock in February. The campaign said the accusations against her were political and not based on any evidence. The Department of Justice declined to comment on the investigation. Loeffler initially denied that she was under investigation, but later said she had turned over documents to federal investigators. She would not say if she was asked to supply the information.

Loeffler’s stock trades prompted several complaints to the Senate Ethics Committee. Among these were his stock trades in Citrix and DuPont de Nemours. The pair also sold stocks in TJX Cos. and Lululemon, both of which are affected by the coronavirus.

Loeffler said there are hundreds of thousands of conservative voters in Georgia who are not registered or have never voted. Meanwhile, the Democratic Party is outpacing Republicans in registrations, with roughly seven hundred new voters every month.
