Tyceanna Brown Was in Her Apartment Washing Clothes

A 1-year-old child was shot in Bibb County, Ga., on Sunday night. The infant was taken to Atrium Health Navicent Hospital. Investigators interviewed Tyceanna Brown, the mother of the child. She said that she had allowed her boyfriend to wash her clothes while she was away for a short time, and that she came back to find Monterrious Brown shot in the chest. Monterrious Brown later died from his injuries.

The shooting took place around 11:30 p.m., and the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office responded. The suspect was a 7-year-old boy who was shot in the chest. No other people were hurt. The police don’t have any other information on the shooter.

Demetrious Simmons was in Tyceanna Brown’s Apartment with his Girlfriend Washing Clothes

Brown had invited Demetrious Simmons to her apartment to wash her clothes and was away from the room when he heard a single gunshot. Brown went to investigate and discovered Monterrious Brown, a one-year-old, had been shot in the upper body. The boy did not survive. Simmons was arrested and is being held without bond at the Bibb County jail.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the shooting happened inside the apartment and that Simmons had been arrested. The shooting happened just after 11 p.m. on Sunday. The infant was rushed to an emergency room. Brown, the boy’s mother, rushed Monterrious to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

While investigating the shooting, authorities found a gun in the apartment where Simmons was washing his clothes. The gun that Simmons used was found in the apartment, and both were arrested. They will face charges of felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. They will not say yet whether Simmons has an attorney.

Bryant Threw a Firearm into a Trash Can

The man accused of firing at a Georgia State Patrol cruiser in Macon, Georgia is currently in jail without bond. He’s also accused of throwing a firearm into a trash can during a traffic stop. Police say Larry Marquez Bryant was distracted driving and had been using a cell phone. When a trooper attempted to pull him over, Bryant ignored the siren and lights and continued driving. After the chase, Bryant fired at the GSP patrol car on D Street, striking it five times on the driver’s side. He later surrendered and was arrested without bond.

The Georgia State Patrol requested the GBI to investigate the incident. It’s the first time they’ve asked for an investigation following an officer-involved shooting this year. During fiscal year 2020, the GBI investigated 96 officer-involved shootings. In comparison, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution tracks officer-involved shootings without the assistance of the GBI.

The incident has spawned a new wave of gun violence and law enforcement response in the area. A new program, called the Junior Justice League, aims to educate middle school students about the criminal justice system. The program will be open for enrollment by the summer of 2021. Another initiative launched by the Macon Judicial Circuit is an accountability and transparency council. The council is comprised of nine members and will include community stakeholders.

Bryant Surrendered to Deputies

The Georgia State Patrol has requested an investigation into whether the macon shooting involved an officer. Deputy John Kile was shot in the chest but survived, thanks to a bullet proof vest. Bryant was stopped after troopers spotted him driving with his cell phone in his hand. After the officer turned on his blue lights, Bryant failed to pull over and fled the scene on foot. When other GPS troopers attempted to pursue him, they managed to stop him and take him into custody.

Eventually, the man and woman surrendered and were taken into custody. Bryant had been arrested on a number of traffic offenses, including DUI and distracted driving, but he was also charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and other charges. The suspect had no ties to the victims, but he did have a history of violent crimes.

Investigators contacted the Georgia State Patrol and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to assist with the case. They did not provide any new details, but did say they would continue investigating the case.
