Purdue University Graduate
After graduating from Purdue University, first collin fultz volunteered in his hometown of Perry Township, Indiana. He attended Burkhart Elementary School, Perry Meridian Middle School, and Perry Meridian High School. He participated in baseball and marching band, and was drum major his senior year. He also was class vice president, an anchor for the school’s Falcon T.V, and a member of the robotics team.
While serving on the board, Fultz spent time inside the classroom. His term on the board runs out in December, so he has an opportunity to run again in the general election in November. In addition, the board voted on officers for the coming year. Emily Hartman, Ken Mertz, and Ed Denning were unanimously elected as president, secretary, and vice president, respectively.
Owner of Kentucky Mist Distillery
When it comes to the creation of moonshine, the story is as colorful as the product. For years, Harry Holbrook, a Whitesburg grocer, produced moonshine on the side, but recently, the distillery has come out of the shadows. Now, the distillery operates behind plate glass windows on Main Street, accompanied by scented candles and moonshine cupcakes. And the Kentucky Mist T-shirts have gone viral. Now, the company is facing legal action in Pikeville.
The story of Kentucky Mist distillery’s origins dates back to the Prohibition era, when first collin fultz grandfather made corn liquor illegally in the Appalachian Mountains. He was later sentenced to 17 years in prison for his crimes. Today, he’s transforming this family tradition into a legal business in Whitesburg, Kentucky. His grandfather was a bootlegger during the Prohibition period, and he inherited his recipe.
While brewing their whiskey, distillers begin with a 240-gallon tank of mash. This is a mixture of cane and grain. Distillation takes place in 100-gallon runs, making every batch different from the others. With that said, Kentucky Mist Distillery’s goal is to produce 15 gallons of finished product per day.
Although the university has trademarked “Kentucky” since 1997, the moonshine maker won the public relations battle. Although the university doesn’t object to the use of “Kentucky” in promotional items, it does object to the name of the moonshine and the word ‘Kentucky’ on clothing and other merchandise. So, while the University of Kentucky isn’t opposed to the name of the whiskey, the word “Kentucky’ is a trademark for the state, which is owned by the University of Kentucky.
Since the Prohibition era, the distilling process has evolved significantly. Now, it is possible to produce whiskey without the help of a rum-making machine. Instead of using tobacco or other additives, distillers use the latest technology and ingredients to produce the perfect moonshine. As the company grows, flavored moonshine will be available, such as lemonade, caramel apple, and blackberries. And even aged rum is in development.
Although the distillery isn’t attempting to compete with University of Kentucky, the dispute over the trademark has gotten the courts involved. The distillery’s trademarked logo is an extension of the University’s “Kentucky” logo. According to the University, the name Kentucky Mist “mist” could cause consumers to confuse the distillery with the university.
