After her arrest, Donna Kelly Pratte has spoken to police about drugs she took the night before. Kelly, who is known as Mac Daddy, first hit the rap scene in 1992 with her debut single, Jump. Later, she and Chris Smith went on to create a hip-hop movement with their platinum album, Totally Krossed Out. Though the two split in 1996, they remained open to the possibility of a reunion.
Police responded to the home of R. Kelly at around 4:30pm on May 1. Upon arrival, R. Kelly was unconscious, and paramedics tried to revive him. However, he died at the hospital. An autopsy and toxicology screening are pending. The rapper’s family, friends, and record label have issued statements of condolence.
The rapper’s death may have been caused by a drug overdose. Donna Kelly Pratte told police that her son had been using cocaine and heroin the night before he died. She said her son had a history of drug abuse. She said that Kelly was on the verge of overdosing.
The group had a hit with “Kris Kross” in 1992. The group split up soon after. However, they did reunite and tour for a few years during the next two decades. But tragedy struck the group after their third album. It was their last album as a group.
