Shaquanda’s Hot Pepper Sauce

Shaquanda’s Hot Pepper Sauce is a delicious, spicy condiment that tells stories from Andre’s Brooklyn upbringing, Barbadian heritage, and identity as a drag queen. Originally a one-man show in Brooklyn, Shaquanda’s sauce is now available at Whole Foods stores in the Northeast. The recipe for the sauce comes from the chef’s own drag experience and is as spicy as the queen herself.

The company is a Black-owned business, created by Andre Springer. He is a native New Yorker of Barbadian descent who started performing in NYC at age twenty. Springer has also created a drag alter ego, Shaquanda Coca Mulatta, and created a hot pepper sauce line around it. Andre spent years working in the restaurant industry before making Shaquanda’s Hot Pepper Sauce. He met Linda Simpson while working on Gay Jeopardy in Queens.

Shaquanda’s Hot Pepper Sauce was born of Springer’s desire to create a spicy condiment that would appeal to the drag community. The sauce contains chili peppers, onions, tomato paste, demerara sugar, and ginger juice. The sauce can be found at Otherwild in Los Angeles, and Fat Radish in Brooklyn. Shaquanda’s Hot Pepper Sauce is a staple in the drag scene and is perfect for the stage.

This hot pepper sauce is the ultimate gift for the drag community. While it is available in specialty shops across the United States, it is also sold at Whole Foods in the North East. The product is featured in several food magazines and has even made its way to the NY Times gift guide. You can find Shaquanda’s Hot Pepper Sauce in select Whole Foods stores. It is a queer-owned business that is transforming the food industry.
